Meet John Cummins

Exited founder. Angel investor. Strategic advisor.

John Cummins founded Cummins Business Ventures to help business owners navigate the decisions that shape their company’s future.

Having built and exited his own business, he understands the commercial pressures and personal decisions that come with ownership: where to invest, when to strengthen the leadership team, how to approach growth and when to consider an exit.

His advisory work brings that experience to founders, management teams and investors assessing their next move.

A Founder’s Perspective. An Investor’s Scrutiny.

John’s experience spans business ownership, angel investing and strategic advisory work with venture capital funds, privately owned companies and private equity-backed businesses. He also serves on the board of an international business chamber.

These roles provide different perspectives on the same business decision. A founder may be weighing ambition against personal risk. A management team needs priorities it can execute. An investor wants to understand the assumptions behind the growth plan and what could prevent it from succeeding.

John brings those perspectives together to challenge assumptions, assess commercial opportunities and help owners make informed decisions.

Build Beyond the Founder

The founder should remain the company’s advantage, not become its constraint.

A founder’s judgment, relationships and commercial instinct often underpin the business’s success. As the company grows, however, too many decisions can continue to depend on that one person.

Our approach is to preserve what makes the founder valuable while helping the business develop clearer responsibilities, stronger leadership and the capacity to operate with greater independence.

That can support the next phase of growth, make international expansion more manageable and improve readiness for a future ownership transition.

Practical Advice Around the Decisions That Matter

An engagement may begin with one question: which growth opportunity deserves investment, whether a new market is worth pursuing, or what needs to change before a business is ready for sale.

We work through the commercial realities, identify the assumptions that need testing and establish practical priorities. Where specialist expertise is required, we can work alongside your existing management team and professional advisors.

Support can take the form of a focused strategic project, an ongoing advisory relationship or a board role. Scope, expected outputs, responsibilities and fees are agreed before work begins.
